Gators golden at Humber Valley tourney in Toronto

The SMHA Atom A Gators were chomping at the bit recently, taking a big bite out of the competition as the local lads captured the Humber Valley Tournament in Toronto.

The Gators kicked off their weekend getaway with a 7-0 win over the West Mall Lightning as Matthew Caufield and Brett Lafortune scored twice each for the winners.

Single markers came courtesy of Seth Marlok, Hawk Recollet and Cole Recollet, with goaltender Kyle Flynn posting the first of four consecutive shutouts for the SMHA crew.

Scoring was at a premium in Game 2 as the Gators played to a 0-0 draw with the Warren Park Eagles, cranking it back up the next morning in blasting the George Bell Atoms 7-0.

Hawk Recollet paved the way for the Northern Ontario boys, netting the hat trick, with Caufield, Yanick Loiselle, Marlok and Jacob Brunette chipping in with one goal apiece.

The Gators cruised through semifinal action, chomping their way to a 6-0 triumph over the Northumberland Knights as Keegan Esquimaux-Osawamick drilled a natural hat trick in accounting for the first three Sudbury goals.

Marlok, Cole Recollet and Eric Valiquette rounded out the scoring as the Gators prepared for their third encounter of the day.

The SMHA Atoms showed no ill effects of their busy schedule, stopping the host Humber Valley Sharks 5-2 in the championship affair.

Yanick Loiselle and Hawk Recollet powered the offence with two goals each, with Cole Recollet adding a solo tally. The roster for the winning team features Hawk Recollet, Jacob Brunette, Zacharie Brunette, Matthew Caufield, Richie Daly, Dallas Scott, Eric Valiquette, Brett Lafortune, Jared Eadie-Chartrand, Matthew Korzeniecki, Seth Marlok, Cole Recollet, Keegan Esquimaux-Osawamick, Yanick Loiselle and goaltender Kyle Flynn.

The head coach of the SMHA Atom A Gators is Steve McDonald, with Bruno Lafortune and Dan Gouin serving as assistants, Marc Brunette as trainer and Kristie Tarr handling the role of team manager.
