Sudbury fighter crowned champ at kickboxing championships

Sudbury resident and Laurentian University student Marie-Pier Lamontagne claimed victory at the WAKO North American Kickboxing Championships recently in Toronto, according to a news release from Melbrook Martial Arts Academy.

Sudbury resident and Laurentian University student Marie-Pier Lamontagne claimed victory at the WAKO North American Kickboxing Championships recently in Toronto, according to a news release from Melbrook Martial Arts Academy.

She joined other fighters from Ontario and Newfoundland to represent Canada against fighters from the U.S., Russia and the Czech Republic.

Lamontagne beat Ashley Burns, a very skilled competitor from Team USA. Burns travelled from Nashville Tenn., to compete in the tournament.
