Cambrian Golden Shield women’s soccer scoring sensation Tiffany Johnson has been named the OCAA Female Athlete of the Week after netting a total of six goals in just two games over the weekend.

Johnson scored twice in helping to lift Cambrian to a 5-1 win on Saturday over the Fleming Knights, adding four more goals on Sunday as the Golden Shield won their fourth straight, defeating the St Lawrence Vikings by the exact same score.

“Tiffany has been a fantastic addition to the squad, and had an outstanding weekend of goals,” noted head coach Giuseppe Politi. “She and TK Rocca have found a special chemistry that has generated offence we've never seen before.”

“She's a game-changer, and leads by example both on and off the field,” Politi added. “She is most deserving of this recognition.”

A graduate of Bishop A Carter Catholic Secondary School, Johnson returned to Sudbury after suiting up with the Cape Breton Capers university soccer team last year.

A longtime member of the Sudbury Canadians program, Johnson scored two goals in the regular season with the Capers in 2013, adding another in the playoffs before opting to start the 2014 fall semester at Cambrian College, pursuing her studies in “pre-trades.”

Making the move to central striker with the Golden Shield, Johnson has racked up 11 goals in five games, as Cambrian remains right in the thick of the race for first place, tied with Algonquin and three points back of Seneca.

Tiffany, along with younger sister Tamara, both plan to also compete with the Cambrian women’s basketball team this year. This marks the second consecutive year that a member of the Cambrian women’s soccer team has been selected as “OCAA Female Athlete of the Week”, with Rocca earning the honours in 2013.
