Team KMAC captures 17 medals at world championships

Two local martial artists can now call themselves world champions after taking gold medals at the World Karate Championships in Ireland.

Two local martial artists can now call themselves world champions after taking gold medals at the World Karate Championships in Ireland.

Team KMAC member Sarra Gratton and Cassyra Walia were two of nine members from Sudbury KMAC to compete at the World Championships. All team members placed within the top 4 in their respective divisions, bringing home a total of 17 medals — three gold medals, five silver medals and nine bronze medals.

Results are as follows:

Sarra: gold, Chinese forms; gold, Korean forms; Silver, speed fighting; silver, team sparring; fourth, creative weapons.

Cassyra: gold, Korean forms; silver, Chinese forms; bronze, team sparring; bronze, speed fighting.

Myah: silver, Korean forms; bronze, speed sparring.

Jayden: bronze, Chinese forms; bronze, speed fighting.

Cedric: bronze, team sparring; bronze, speed fighting.

Kurtis: bronze, Chinese forms.

Aiden: silver, Chinese forms.

Tyler: silver, Chinese forms.

Mikaio: fourth, Chinese forms.
