The Sudbury Wolves' losing streak reached double digits Wednesday night with a 7-2 loss at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

The night didn't get off to a great start as the Greyhounds scored early in the first period. But the Wolves scored twice in a span of 23 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.

For Pavel Jenys, it was his third of the season while Danny Desrochers notched his second. However, the Greyhounds tied it up just seconds later and the two teams went to the dressing rooms 2-2.

Things fell a part for the Wolves in the second period as the Greyhounds scored five unanswered goals and took a 7-2 lead.

There was no scoring in the third.

Wolves head coach Paul Fixter said his big disappointment was that his team gave the Greyhounds some soft goals.

"We had a good first period, but the second period was not up to OHL standards," said Fixter, before climbing on the bus after the game. "They are a very good team. There is a reason they have nine wins on the season. They are highly skilled, but we made it too easy for them in that second period."

The Greyhounds outshot the Wolves 40-31.

Goalie Troy Timpano was replaced by Sam Tanguay to start the third period after giving up all seven goals.

"Troy struggled tonight, but that's what happens with a young goalie" said Fixter. "Basically he is a first-year goalie; it was a tough night for him.

Wolves General Manager Blaine Smith was at the game. He said it's been a disappointing start to the season.

"We had projected that we would have scored more goals by this point of the season, but for whatever reason we haven't," Smith said in a second-period radio interview. "We scored 17 goals in 10 games. You are not going to win too many games that way.

"It usually takes about 20 games to get a good read on your team. We will just have to figure it out, and there is nobody out there with a magic wand that is going to make everything better."

With his team now 1-10 on the season and on a 10-game losing streak, Smith was asked if a coaching change is being considered.

"Not at all," Smith was quick to respond. "We have three coaches that spend hours with these boys both on and off the ice. They work with them and are constantly teaching them in practice, as well as going over video on ways to get better. With so many young players, we knew it was going to take time."

The Wolves are home for two games this weekend. Friday night the Peterborough Petes are at the Sudbury Community Arena at 7:30 p.m. while the Erie Otters provide the opposition Saturday night at 7 p.m.
