Regals royal in whitewash of Vikes

The Marymount Regals will get a crack at a fourth consecutive Sudbury District Secondary Schools Athletic Association (SDSSAA) flag football crown. And they won't need to go through the only team to beat them this year to do it.

The Marymount Regals will get a crack at a fourth consecutive Sudbury District Secondary Schools Athletic Association (SDSSAA) flag football crown.

And they won't need to go through the only team to beat them this year to do it.

Such was the end result after a pair of Division A semi-finals were contested Tuesday night at the James Jerome Sports Complex. The Notre-Dame Alouettes won the first game in thrilling fashion, as kicker Megan Coutu split the uprights from about 30 yards out on the final play of the game, to earn a 9-8 win over the Lively Hawks.

Jenelle St. Jean scored the only touchdown of the game for the winners, while Tara St. Jean countered with a major of her own in a losing cause. The Hawks topped the regular season standings with a record of 4-1. They soared over the Regals 22-6 back on Sept. 16.

Marymount would take care of business in the later game, recording a 28-0 whitewash of the Lockerby Vikings. Chantae Robinson and Mia Tullio score two touchdowns apiece for the Regals.

Emily Taylor was 4/4 on her conversion attempts, while QB Katherine Boyce was at her best throughout the game, making a number of key audible calls at the line of scrimmage to maintain marches for the Regals.

"When it comes to the championship game, we're approaching it as we have each of our games this season," said Marymount coach Dan Bartolucci. "Learn early from any mistakes, adjust defensively to the opposition's play, and work hard to keep the ball out of their hands as much as possible."

The A Division final is set for Nov. 4 at 6 p.m., immediately following the battle of the Division B heavyweights.

A pair of teams moved through to the semi-finals earlier this week with decisive victories.
Brittany Lebel returned a pair of interceptions for majors, adding another rushing TD to her resume as the Lasalle Lancers tamed the St. Benedict Bears 37-6.

Kaitlyn McInnis scored the remaining two touchdowns, with Meaghan Ethier adding two converts and a field goal, and Emily Daigle chipping in with a two point conversion.

Danielle Battistelli hauled in a pass from Julia Jodouin to earn St. Benedict its only marker of the game. Lasalle faces the Bishop Carter Gators on Thursday in one semi-final, with the Lo-Ellen Park Knights meeting the Chelmsford Flyers in the other.

CVDCS outlasted the Horizon Aigles 22-10 on Tuesday afternoon, with Cally Vanier scoring two TDs and a conversion. Emily Pulvermacher registered a pair of two point conversions to close out the scoring for the Flyers, with Shon St. Amand (TD) and Brook-Lyn Roy (PAT + FG) countering for Horizon.
