The Cambrian ladies hit the win column while the men remain in search of an elusive victory after the Golden Shield basketball teams paid a visit last Sunday to Sault Ste. Marie.

Emily Tymchuk netted 21 points and Tiffany Johnson added 11 as the Cambrian Golden Shield women's basketball team stopped the Sault Cougars 51-40. Trailing 26-24 at the half, the visitors exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Cougars 19-6 and improving their season record to 1-2.

Karli Marcotte chipped in with eight points for the winners, while Karen Etherington added seven, with Chantelle Thomas and Tymchuk showing the way on the boards with eight rebounds apiece.

Unfortunately, the Cambrian men could not follow in the ladies' footsteps, derailed by a horrible opening quarter that would see the Sault bolt to a 29-6 lead.

In the end, three solid quarters were not enough to make up the initial deficit as the Golden Shield dropped an 80-66 decision to the Cougars.

Joey Bruni (27), Tyrell Hoyme (22) and Javier Stephenson (16) topped the scoring brigade for the victors, with Kevin Cole (21) and Peter Luyeye (20) helping to keep things close for Cambrian.

Both of the Golden Shield teams are back in action this coming weekend, with the men battling the 4-1 Fanshawe Falcons while the Cambrian ladies face an undefeated Falcons crew (4-0) making the same trip.
