There’s no way to sugar coat it — the Sudbury Wolves got off to a rough start, with just three wins and 15 losses.

The team is hoping they can create momentum after beating the Belleville Bulls last Saturday on home ice. The Wolves were down 6-3 in the third period before mounting a furious comeback, and winning 7-6 in overtime.

Players spoke after the game about how the win could be the turning point of the season. Fans are hoping the same thing.

The team embarks on a three-games-in-three-nights road trip this weekend, and the coaches are hoping the players’ actions speak louder than words.

“A win like we had against Belleville could turn things around, but the players now have to go out and do it,” Sudbury head coach Paul Fixter said. “It’s not easy. Hopefully, it is a building block we can move forward on in a positive manner.”

The Wolves play Mississauga on Friday, Sarnia on Saturday and finish off against Kitchener on Sunday. The team has added new players recently — defenceman Jonathan Duchense and forward Brook Hiddink — and a long road trip might help with the team’s overall harmony.

“It’s going to be a tough road trip,” Fixter said. “Spending that much time on the bus and in hotels will help with team bonding and camaraderie.”

Fixter hopes the players learned some valuable lessons from the victory over the Bulls that they can apply to their opponents this weekend.

“There’s two things,” Fixter said. “The game is 60 minutes regardless of score and they need to play it out hard to the end. Two, they can’t get frustrated. They have to always keep persevering because good things will happen.”
