A poor start proved to be the difference as the Sudbury Wolves opened up a three-game weekend road trip with a 5-2 loss in Mississauga Friday night.

The hometown Steelheads had the jump on the visitors, and before the Wolves found their legs they were down 3-0 after just 8:25 of the first period.

But a couple of power play goals from Kyle Capobianco and Nick Baptiste got the Wolves back into the game before the Steelheads scored late to take a 4-2 lead into the dressing room.

The shots on goal after the first were even at 15.

Both teams must have gotten lectures from their respective coaching staffs about defence because the offence dried up.

Despite several power play opportunities for both teams there were no goals in the second period.

Shots on goal again were even in the second period at 13.

Offence was again hard to find in the third with the only goal coming at the 19:57 mark as the Steelheads scored into the empty net to make the final score 5-2.

The Wolves out-shot the Steelheads in the third period 13-8 and out-shot them overall 41-36.

With the loss the Wolves season record drops to 3-16.

The Wolves continue the road trip Saturday night in Sarnia before finishing the weekend in Kitchener Sunday night.
