The Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes have fired the first shot in what promises to be the next instalment of a very good SDSSAA girls hockey rivalry.

The Als defeated the St. Charles College Cardinals 4-2 in the final of the second annual Cardinal Cup on Thursday, breaking a 2-2 tie with 2:19 remaining in the game in claiming the hardware.

Josée Scott, Kaylie Venedam, Megan McGaughey and Melisa Kingsley scored for CND, who split their double round-robin matchups with the Cards over the course of the two-day event.

Summer Butterfly and Sierra Crossthwaite replied in a losing cause for St. Charles. In the Division B championship affair, Megan Mackenzie netted the only goal of the game, with Charity Walt registering the shutout as the Confederation Chargers blanked the Lo-Ellen Park Knights 1-0.
