A goal by Bradey Smith with just 44 seconds to play capped off a very successful weekend for the Nickel City Minor Peewee AAA Sons Sunday morning at the Carmichael Arena, lifting the team to a 2-2 tie with the Sudbury Minor Peewee AAA Wolves.

More importantly, the goal allowed the Sons to secure five of a possible six points in the weekend set, remaining undefeated (7-0-3) and moving one point ahead of the Wolves atop the Northern Ontario AAA Hockey League standings.

Nolan Moxam opened the scoring with the only goal of the opening frame for Nickel City, with Sudbury taking a second-period lead thanks to goals from Marco Vigna and Sean Jansen just 20 seconds apart.

The Sons initially got things rolling in Game 1 as Bradley Brunet and Skyler St. Pierre pulled the trigger on the power play, helping Nickel City double Sudbury 4-2. Davis Kainola and Smith rounded out the scoring for the winners, while Oliver Smith and Cameron Walker countered for the Wolves.

The Sons set the table for a three-game sweep, scoring two goals in both the second and third periods Saturday night and upending the Minor Peewee Wolves 4-1. Brandon Hass, Ian Mackey, Jacob Gaudet and Gavin Roy each worked their way on to the scoresheet for Nickel City, while goaltenders Mathieu Simon and Connor McCann each picked up a win between the pipes.

Ethan Marois broke the ice with a goal at 9:26 of the first period, but that would be all of the offence the Sudbury crew could muster.

Nickel City is back in action this weekend, hosting Sault Ste. Marie for a three-game set, with both the Sons and Wolves heading south for tournament play Dec. 5-7, taking part in the 2014 Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Reebok Classic.
