Confederation Chargers boys hockey coach Jamie Bouchard was admittedly nervous about heading all the way to Montreal to take part in a tournament that would feature only a four-team draw.

Thankfully, in terms of competition, it was everything that he and his team could have asked for.

The Chargers opened with a great matchup right out of the gate, edging the Vincent Massey Vikings from Brandon (Manitoba) 1-0 as Brendyn Sauvé scored the only goal and goaltender Josh Kneblewski made it stand.

Confederation remained unbeaten following Game 2 with a 2-1 win over the Hayden Huskies (Burlington) as Kyle Preseau joined Sauvé on the scoresheet for the winners.

Riding high, the Chargers were dealt a good helping of humble pie in Game 3, beaten 6-3 by the Blakelock Tigers (Oakville), with Sauvé adding two more goals and Tyler Rivest jumping in to the mix.

The Northern Ontario crew advanced to the championship affair, despite the loss, earning a rematch with the Tigers. This time around, the contest was much more defensive, as a far more disciplined Confederation lineup took to the ice.

Despite pulling out all stops, the Chargers fell just short, dropping a 2-1 decision, as Brody Laberge stood tall between the pipes for the SDSSAA representatives.

Forward Brock Connor was named Sportsman of the tournament, while Brendy Sauvé finished as runner-up for tournament MVP. One point back of the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes in league standings, the Chargers close out their first half schedule against the St. Benedict Bears Monday night at Carmichael.
