Young curlers square off in the Soo

Greater Sudbury will be well-represented at the Northern Ontario provincial junior championships this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Soo Curlers Association hosts the Best Western Northern Ontario Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championship from Jan. 3-6.

The city is sending eight teams to the event (four girls and four boys teams) from the Sudbury Curling Club, Copper Cliff Curling Club, Idylwylde Golf and Country Club and Coniston Curling Club.

The teams are competing for one spot each in the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Curling Championship to be held in Corner Brook, NL, from Jan. 24 to Feb. 1.

Sudbury junior women's teams:

Sudbury Curling Club: Megan Smith, skip; Kira Brunton, vice; Mikaela Cheslock, second; Emma Johnson, lead; Chris Johnson, coach.

Copper Cliff Curling Club: Sydnie Stinson, skip; Callie Gibson, vice; Brooklyn Clark, second; Samantha Gibson, lead; Sandra Lahti, coach.

Idylwylde Golf & Country Club: Krysta Burns, skip; Leah Hodgson, vice; Sara Guy, second; Laura Masters, lead; Rodney Guy, coach.

Coniston Curling Club: Jamie Smith, skip; Kendra Carriere, vice; Alyssa McVittie, second; Madison Villeneuve, lead; Bryna Patman, coach.

Sudbury junior men's teams:

Sudbury Curling Club: Sam Cull, skip; Mark Robinson, vice; Phil Gareau, second; Nick Mercier, lead; Tom Cull, coach.

Sudbury Curling Club: Brendan Acorn, skip; Liam Brunton, vice; Mitchell Harris, second; Scott Foy, lead; Spencer Clark, fifth; Steve Acorn, coach.
