It was the result you expect when the best team in the country takes on a team 68 points behind them in the standings.

The Sudbury Wolves went into the General Motors Centre Monday afternoon and was beaten 7-0 by the Oshawa Generals.

Wolves interim head coach Dave Matsos says the General are a tough team to generate offense against.

"We hung around as long as we could" said Matsos.

"We worked hard, but we were short staffed with only ten forwards in the lineup — not using that as an excuse. We gave up only ten Grade A scoring chances, some on their power play, in the first 40 minutes and we gave them only eight shots in the second period.

"We felt we were there, but they decided to turn it up a notch and we didn't have the gas to keep up."

The Wolves had another decent start and despite being outshot 14-5, goalie Sam Tanguay held the Generals with some key stops as Oshawa took only a 1-0 lead to the dressing room.

Oshawa scored two more in the second and then blew it open with four goals in the third period.

Jeremy Brodeur, the son of NHL legend Martin Brodeur, made 17 shots for his third shut-out of the season.

Wolves netminder Sam Tanguay was much busier facing 46 shots of which he stopped 39.

Wolves forward David Zeppieri says they just wanted to play a simple game and limit the General's chances and he says they did that for the first two periods.

"We just had too many turnovers in the third period" said Zeppieri. "We made some key mistakes and they have a strong team and they took advantage of them. We have to be better next game."

The Wolves season record drops to 9-43-1-1 while on the road they're 3-21-1-1.

Up next is a trip to Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday night before returning home to face Kitchener on Friday night at the Sudbury Arena and then the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon.
