In the girls AAA/AAAA playdowns, it appears likely that the St. Charles College Cardinals and Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes are headed towards another head-to-head showdown, with Northern Ontario bragging rights on the line.

After the Alouettes blanked the Cards 4-0 to open play in North Bay, both local entries handled teams from the host city with relative ease, with both St. Charles and CND needing one more win on Tuesday morning to book their spots in the final.

Danika Roy posted the shutout against St. Charles, with Notre Dame goals coming from Taylor McGaughey (2), Ashley McKerral and Jamie Ricci. The Alouettes improved to 2-0 later in the day, blasting the St Joseph Scollard Hall Bears 9-0, as Kailey Lapensee and Meagan McGaughey scored two goals apiece.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals rebounded from their opening game loss, trouncing the West Ferris Trojans 7-1, with Sierra Crossthwaite recording the hat trick. Tayler Murphy, Emi Mardero, Sarah Mulvenna and Summer Butterfly rounded out the scoring for the three-time city champions.

In Sault Ste. Marie, the CND boys racked up a win and a tie at the A/AA NOSSA championships, closing out round-robin play on Tuesday. The Alouettes played to a 3-3 tie with the Central Algoma Huskies as Nicholas DeSantis, Alex Savard and Alain Sicard found the back of the net for the SDSSAA reps.

The Notre-Dame lads closed off Day 1 on a winning note, doubling the St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears 4-2, with Jérémie Noel, Christian Larivière, Nick Marion and Savard pulling the trigger for CND. The remaining SDSSAA finalist matched the Notre Dame effort, as St. Charles also finished 1-0-1 at the AAA/AAAA event in North Bay.

The Cardinals also opened with a 3-3 tie, playing to a deadlock with the West Ferris Trojans, as Bryceton Lalonde, Andrew Dodge and Tyler Michaud all made their way on to the scoresheet. Facing a second straight NDA entry, St. Charles bested the Widdifield Wildcats 5-2, with Blake Purcell leading the way with a two-goal effort.

Markers from Todd Timony, Ben Kaskiewicz and Cameron Quenville capped things off for the Cards, as play continues today, in anticipation of the OFSAA championships slated for later this month.
