Police officers in Sudbury will trade in their guns and uniforms for hockey sticks and jerseys March 6 as they face off against the NHL Alumni team.

Greater Sudbury Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and correctional services will lace up their skates to help raise funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The action takes place at the Garson Arena starting at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.

“We are very excited to showcase an exhibition game with Sudbury’s local heroes from the Law Enforcement All-Star team,” said Mark Napier, former NHLer and executive director of NHL Alumni. “We cherish the chance to get together as alumni to play with old friends and promote the game of hockey across Ontario, all while raising money for a great cause.”

Fans attending the game have an opportunity to meet guest coach and ambassador Walter Gretzky, father of the Great One Wayne Gretzky.

The rest of the NHL Alumni lineup includes Ken Belanger, Dan Daoust, Bill Derlago, Brent Gretzky, Al Iafrate, Mike Krushelnyski, Denny Lambert, Dave McLlwain, Mike Pelyk, Rick Vaive, Mark Laforest and Dave Hutchison as referee. Lineup is subject to change.
