Hot on the heels of an outstanding performance at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., local para-nordic skier Tanya Quesnel has returned from nationals with another collection of medals.

The Grade 12 student at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur was in Thunder Bay last week, participating in the Haywood 2015 Ski Nationals. The local talent nabbed four silver medals, sweeping a second-place finish in the 800m, 2.5-km, five-km and eight-km sit-ski para female races.

She claimed three silver medals at the Winter Games as well (800m, 2.5-km and five-km sit-ski para female races), and won OFSAA gold earlier this year at the provincial high school championships hosted in Sudbury.

The dedicated teenager was presented, earlier this year, with the Craig T. Noble award from ICAN (Independence Centre and Network) Sudbury.

Quesnel was born with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia and is a past ICAN youth services participant.

The Craig T. Noble award is presented to a Greater Sudbury youth, between the age of twelve and 21, with a physical disability, who demonstrates an ambition to be independent, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic towards independence, and an involvement in the community.
