A long season of Nickel District Minor Hockey League action dragged on just a bit longer Sunday afternoon at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex — but nobody was about to complain.

With the NDMHL hosting their year-end playoff weekend, both of the last two championship encounters would require overtime, though neither extended a whole lot further in period No. 4.

In the Bantam B championship, the West Ferris ProSharp Minor Bantam AA Trappers took advantage of some late penalty troubles for the Manitoulin Panthers, as Kyle Armstrong pulled the trigger on the power play in a 2-1 West Ferris win.

Jakob Girard opened the scoring on a pretty individual effort in the final minute of the opening period, with Cole King pulling the Panthers even early in the third.

The Nickel City Storm capped a late rally in overtime to capture the Henry Lebouthillier A banner with a 4-3 win over the Nickel City Jr. Sons. The Jr. Sons held a 3-2 lead with less than two minutes to play before Callum Dolphin forced overtime, with Brayden Beaupré drilling home the game-winning tally less than four minutes later.

Goals by Nathan Drolet and Matthew Savoie rounded out the scoring for the winners, while Linden Shanks, Colin Withers and Brennan Charbonneau replied in a losing cause in a rare penalty-free bantam rep matchup.

The Art Beaupré Peewee A trophy was awarded to the Sudbury Major Wolves following a 5-1 win over the Nickel City Jr. Sons. Five different goal scorers found the back of the net for the Wolves, with Jacob Démoré, Brendan Weber, Ethan Matijevich, Brett White and Kaleb Muzzi tallying once each.

Justin Hallett countered for the Jr. Sons, who will nonetheless represent the NOHA at the OHF (Ontario Federation Championships in Mississauga in early April.
