Laurels jumping for joy after strong provincials showing

If the goal of provincials is to peak in time for the all-Ontario competition, at least a few of the GymZone – Sudbury Laurels trampolinists can tick this off the to-do list.

The team was competing at provincials in Windsor earlier this month.

Earning some of his highest scores of the year, Jay Norrie (Provincial 1 – men 13+) finished sixth overall, drawing plenty of praise from head coach Michelle Seanor.

“Our athletes have always been able to compete harder skills than the competition, but our execution scores have required some improvement,” Seanor said. “Jay demonstrated, at this competition, a significant improvement in his execution scores, and a new attention to detail that will benefit him in the long run.”

After qualifying for finals in sixth place, her best ranking of the year, Pauleena Moote (Provincial 3 – women 14 and under) was edged out by a pair of competitors, settling for eighth overall.

Halley Baker (Provincial 2 – women 13-14) also enjoyed her top finish of the year, placing ninth, while substantially improving her scores at the provincial championships. Rounding out the provincial qualifiers were Sebastien Larochelle, placing 13th in the Provincial 4 – men’s classification, while Taryn Thompson took 19th in the Provincial 2 – women’s 13-14 grouping.

And hot on the heels of the provincial trampolinists, interclub athletes from Sudbury are on the road to the GTA. Five members of the Laurels will be competing in trampoline on April 26.
