A new group of local sports greats will join the ever-growing list of those enshrined in the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame.

More than 100 names, that also included teams and corporate sponsors, were put forward and reviewed by a selection committee. Eight inductees, including one corporate sponsor and one sports organization, were chosen.

Figure skater Meagan Duhamel receives an automatic induction as a result of winning three of the House of Kin's major sports awards in past years. She becomes only the second individual to enter the Players' category in this manner. She joins Alex Baumann, who was inducted in 1983 after taking Sportsman of the Year honours on three occasions.

The 2015 class includes:

Administration Category: Paul Brunelle, a long-time high school coach and administrator;

Builders' Category: Cathy Inch, equestrian coach and competitor; Larry Bedard, minor hockey coach and manager for more than 40 years; and Gary Ricker, former Sudbury Spartans and high school coach;

Players' Category: Alex Fex, former Sudbury Hardrocks football player; the late Sophie Manarin, a former junior skiing champion and 13-time medal winner; and Dan McCourt, former NHL official and current NHL advisor;

Club Category: Voima Athletic Club, currently celebrating its 75th anniversary locally; and

Corporate Category: Canada Brokerlink, for its financial commitment to many sporting events locally.

The 2015 class will be officially inducted at the 47th annual House of Kin Sports Celebrity Dinner and Awards, taking place June 10 at the Caruso Club.

Ticket for the dinner are $50/adults and $20/10 and under, and are available at the House of Kin on Regent Street, or by phoning 705-522-3600.
