First he ran for mayor, and now he's running for Sudbury ROCKS!!!
Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger will lace up his running shoes Sunday, May 10 and join hundreds of other runners for the annual race.
Bigger presented a certificate to race organizers Monday that recognizes Sudbury ROCKS' 10th anniversary.
He said he was pleased to support the event.
“It really brings the entire community together,” the mayor said.
Bigger will run in the 5 K race, and although he said he hasn't run in a while, when he was younger he completed a couple of marathons, and did a number of shorter races.
Brent Walker, Sudbury ROCKS' race co-director, said he expects a better turnout this year than in 2014.
“We're expecting huge crowds,” he said. “As soon as the weather changed, people are deciding they're going to run our event.”
The early forecast for Sunday is mixed cloud with a high of 19 C, which Walker said would be ideal conditions for race day.
In its 10-year history Sudbury ROCKS has contributed more than $500,000 to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
