Tough weekend for Chill at provincials

It was certainly not the provincial sendoff the Northern Chill were hoping for. Sending their final two teams (of six) to the OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) Provincial Championships in Waterloo last month, the locals struggled to find their rhythm, right across the board.

The U18 Chill ladies faced some challenges in Division I action, falling to the Aurora Storm Tsunami (17-25, 20-25), Durham Attack Black (25-21, 28-30, 9-15) and Oakville Thunder (29-31, 18-25), all on day one.

Some lengthy battles did not help their cause early the next day, as the Chill lost to the Kitchener Predators – Purple (19-25, 23-25), before catching their second wind.

The Sudbury crew defeated the Chatham-Kent Chaos (28-26, 25-22) and Aurora York Spartans (25-22, 19-25, 15-11), sliding into Tier 4 for Sunday action. The day was short-lived, as the Chill were sent packing by the Oakville Thunder for a second time, dropping a 20-25, 26-24, 12-15 decision.

Across the floor, the U14 squad were not faring a whole lot better, opening with a record of 1-2. Losses to the London Great Whites (20-25, 13-25) and Oshawa Durham Attack Voltage (17-25, 25-16, 9-15), were tough, though the Chill did close on a winning note, besting the Waterloo Tigers Black (25-21, 22-25, 15-12).

Re-pooled on Saturday, the Chill produced similar results, beaten by both the Oakville EVP Eagles Red (23-25, 28-26, 10-15) and Brant Youth Volleyball Club (23-25, 12-25), before knocking off the Barrie Elites Blue 20-25, 25-15, 16-14.

Battling the London LVC Fire Ignite in the Tier 2 round of sixteen on day three, the Chill fought tooth and nail, before succumbing 25-17, 18-25, 11-15.

The action closed off the competitive season for the Northern Chill Volleyball Club, which celebrated its 10th anniversary of existence over the course of the 2014-2015 campaign.
