The retired NHLer, most remembered for scoring the series-winning goal in the Canada-Russia clash of 1972, will be speaking at the Holiday Inn.

Henderson is the keynote speaker at the Christian Athletes Banquet, a dinner and evening celebration that will run from 6:30-9 p.m., with tickets being sold for $25 per person.

Named as a member of the Order of Canada in 2012, the 72-year-old native of Kincardine netted the goal that was subsequently voted as the "sports moment of the century" by the Canadian Press.

In fact, Henderson scored the game-winning goal in each of the final three encounters of the Summit Series, but also appeared in more than 700 NHL games from 1962 to 1980, amassing 236 goals and 477 points, primarily as a member of both the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

A born-again Christian, Henderson became a minister, motivational speaker and author following his playing career. In recent years, he has waged a battle with cancer, which prevented him from attending the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Summit Series in Moscow a few years back.

Henderson will be joined in Sudbury by his wife, Eleanor, frequently at his side as he continues his travels across Ontario, and throughout Canada. Inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1995, Henderson has indicated that he will be available, at the end of the evening, to sign autographs.

Tickets for the evening are available by contacting Denis Aubut at [email protected].
