Alouettes bring home slo-pitch banner

"This one might be the best team in my four years," said Lapierre. "It's the furthest we went since I was here. The bats were on fire this year. We added a bunch of ninth graders who could really hit.

The Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes romped over the Horizon Aigles in the Division A final, bringing back the banner to CND.
"This one might be the best team in my four years," said Lapierre. "It's the furthest we went since I was here. The bats were on fire this year. We added a bunch of ninth graders who could really hit."

More than most, Lapierre has an appreciation for the finer aspects of the sport, having grown up on the diamonds.

"I've been playing hardball since I was little, maybe about seven, and then I switched to fast-pitch two to three years ago," she said.

Still, one cannot always transition directly from baseball to slo-pitch.

"Your style of batting is different, and the way the ball comes off the bat when you're playing infield. There's a big difference, but you adjust easily enough."

Receiving their stiffest push from the Sacré-Coeur Griffons, the Alouettes were simply too powerful at the plate to be toppled.

"If you can find a hole, where their girls aren't standing, you can go from there," said Lapierre.

"But just making solid contact with the ball is usually good enough."

The Notre-Dame championship roster included Carine DiMaio, France Bélanger, Kassandra Lapierre, Natalie Carrière, Danika Loiselle, Danica Servant, Joelle Belanger, Maxine Lemieux, Abigail Robineau, Mélanie Cloutier, Emilie Lefebvre and coaches Danika Brabant, Julie Léger-DiMaio and Jordan Ouellette.

The Division B final provided a great deal more drama for the spectators on hand, as the Rivière des Français Muskies overcame a seven-run deficit, scoring eight times in their final at-bat to post a 12-11 win over the Bishop Carter Gators.
