Whether or not they go with interim head coach Dave Matsos remains to be seen.

President and General Manager of the Sudbury Wolves Blaine Smith said Friday, the latest they will go is the middle of June, but hopes to have the coach in place before the Wolves do their annual full team fitness testing on the second weekend in June.

Smith explained why they have been waiting to make a decision.

“We’re looking at the managerial scouting setup before we get into the coaches, because if there is a change in any sort of a management role, we want that manager to have a say in the coaching decision,” he said.

It has been a long process for the Wolves. Matsos, who began last season as an associate coach, took over on an interim basis when Paul Fixter was let go in the beginning of January.

“Things are progressing ahead but were not any further along as far as committing or making formal announcements until I would think, the first week of June,” Smith said.

Matsos has expressed his desire to become a head coach, and is under contract as an associate coach for one more season.
