Olympian and three-time World Cup medalist Devon Kershaw will join residents of Greater Sudbury and the Share the Road Cycling Coalition for the annual Share the Road ride on May 28.
Participants will ride to raise awareness of cycling and road safety and the importance of sharing the road.
Kershaw was drawn to promote the benefits of cycling, and the importance of cycling safety after suffering a personal tragedy. He lost his girlfriend, Sofie Manarin, as a result of a cycling collision in 2001.
Share the Road raises awareness on the importance of road safety to prevent further tragedies.
This year's ride is May 28, 2015 at 5 p.m. at Science North for a 15-kilometre or five-kilometre loop rides.
The event will include opening ceremonies, a review of helmet fit, hand signals and rules of the road.

The Sudbury ride is one of many across the province held to showcase the growing numbers of cyclists in Ontario — and showcase its benefits in terms of improved community cohesion and livability, improved health outcomes, and economic development through tourism.
