The GSSC Impact U17 Girls are sporting a perfect 2-0 record after the weekend, blanking the Pickering Power 3-0 on Saturday and following that effort up with a 4-1 win over the Barrie Spirit the next afternoon.

Sarah Cholewinsky provided all of the offense in game one, netting a pair in the first half and completing her hat trick late in the game as keeper Josée Scott recorded the shutout.

It was a much more balanced attack that helped bring the Sudbury win streak to a pair of games. Just 10 minutes in, Cholewinsky narrowly missed picking up her fourth goal of the season, gathering a well-placed through ball from Morgan Melnek and sliding it wide in the 10th minute.

Ten minutes later, the locals took advantage of a rare mistake from the Barrie keeper, who truthfully helped keep this game close much longer than most expected. A direct kick from Kayleigh Coufal from 32 yards out slipped through the hands of the goaltender, giving the Impact a 1-0 advantage.

That would be the only scoring in the opening half, as Sudbury pressed continuously, with Lina Audet drilling a shot off the crossbar. Those missed opportunities looked costly when Barrie was awarded a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.

Jazmine Short calmly drilled a shot home, just minutes after both Melissa Martel and Melnek were stymied on quality scoring chances, with the former seeing her ball sailing towards an empty cage, headed away at the very last second by a Barrie defender.

Thankfully, the Impact would not take their foot off the pdeal, rewarded with a pair of goals just over a minute apart. In the 66th minute, Martel corralled a pass from Melnek, lofting the ball over the keeper to give the home side a 2-1 lead.

The advantage was quickly doubled when Alexis Belanger mounted her attack from the opposite side of the field, making no mistake from in tight after gaining the left flank. The Impact closed out the scoring in their 4-1 late in the game, with newcomer Trinity Desjardine of North Bay rewarded for her hustle with a lucky bounce.

A Barrie clearing attempt inside the box nailed the shin guards of the Sudbury attacker, sliding right back into the open net. With a pair of tournaments in May already behind them, the team under the direction of coaches Gervase Robinson and Brian Coufal does not resume CGSL play until June 13 and 14, heading south to face Glen Shields and Toronto.
