Twenty-five athletes earned gold medals at the 2015 NOSSA Track and Field Championships in Sturgeon Falls over the past two days.

Amazingly, more than a third of that group actually managed the feat more than once.

The SDSSAA contingent that will head to Toronto to compete at OFSAA from June 4 to June 6 includes 2014 provincial medallists Noah LaPierre of Lasalle Secondary (senior boys high jump) and Chris Barclay of Lo-Ellen Park (100m/800m blind).

That is but the tip of the iceberg, however, with several Sudbury and area teenagers distinguishing themselves at all three age brackets. Multiple-event winners in the senior division included Liam Passi of Lasalle (3000m and 2000m steeplechase), Brendan Costello of Lo-Ellen (800m and 1500m), Knights' teammates Reinhardt Grobler (110m and 400m hurdles) and Barclay (above), Sacré-Coeur wheelchair athlete Tanya Quesnel (200m and 400m), as well as Jenny Drane of Lockerby (pole vault and triple jump).

Top-end junior talent featured Karly Hellstrom of Lasalle (400m and 800m) and Natalie Lefebvre of Notre-Dame (1500m and 3000m), while the rising stars within the midget classification are comprised of a Lo-Ellen Knights troika.

Josh Tillson (800m/1500m/3000m), Sydney Tarini (1500m and 3000m) and hurdler Morgan Smith (80m and 300m hurdles) form a solid nucleous that head coach Colin Ward is looking to groom in the years to come.
