The Sudbury Peewee Rockhounds made it back to back tournament titles recently, capturing top spot at the Chuck Miller Classic in Guelph a few weeks back.

Where their first tournament win would see the locals outclass several teams en route to a much closer gold medal game, this second event provided a stiffer test, from start to finish.

Spotting the Windsor Warlocks an early 3-0 lead, the Rockhounds stormed back to win their opening game 8-6, providing a solid base for their next challenge.

Game two would bring Sudbury face-to-face with the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves, with the northern lads trimming the 15th ranked team in the province (out of a field of 90) by a final score of 4-3.

In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Rockhounds would best the Oakville Hawks #2 team (Oakville was home to the 2014 Peewee "A" provincials champs) 10-4, earning a berth in the finals.

Despite battling some penalty issues in the final, the Sudbury crew would ride a solid performance in net from Cloé Douillette, and an overtime game-winning goal from sniper Aidan Teeter, clipping the Cambridge Chiefs 5-4.

The end result is that the Sudbury Peewee Rockhounds are currently sitting among the top 16 in the province, the teams that would be classified as "A" Division teams if provincials were to start today.

Realistically, coach Benoit Douillette believes his team is likely more well suited as a "B" entry, with both tournament championships to date falling into the "B/C" classification.

The team will put their 9-0 record on the line this coming weekend, heading to Orillia for the annual Boyd Balkwill Memorial Tournament. The Rockhounds will compete in a division that also includes the Halton Hills Bulldogs, Orillia Kings and Uxbridge Enforcers.

Joining the Peewees in Oakville are the Sudbury Novice Rockhounds, fresh off a semi-final appearance in their first tournament action of the summer. Coaches Wayne Bennett and Tony Insinna will be guiding the youngest of the Rockhound troops this year.
