The GSLA (Greater Sudbury Lacrosse Association) can thank the Peewee Roughnecks and Peewee Bandits for bringing their 2015 houseleague campaign to a perfect conclusion.

The teams battled their way through one of the best games of the playoff tournament weekend at the Garson Arena Sunday afternoon, before Owen Parsons netted the game-winning goal just over two minutes into overtime, lifting the Roughnecks to a 5-4 win.

Parsons' goal came only after Jared Eadie-Chartrand had pulled the trigger for the Bandits on his third goal of the game, with just 22 seconds to play, forcing a little extra time.

Ben Harris and Brett Bond scored two goals apiece to lead the way for the winners, while Dylan Jacques joined Eadie-Chartrand on the scoresheet in a losing cause.

Parsons may not have enjoyed the opportunity for his memorable goal if not for the work of Roughnecks' goaltender Carter Wright, who turned aside Eadie-Chartrand on a clear-cut breakaway in overtime, and came through with another big save on a defensive breakdown by his teammates.

"I thought we were done, I was really nervous," said Wright, recalling his first thoughts as the Bandits sniper broke free in the extra session, looking to bury his fourth goal of the game.

"Usually, they all do the same thing, try and run one way, then shoot on the other side, so I was kind of ready for that," Wright continued. "He ended up doing that, so it worked out for me."

The twelve-year old well-spoken youngster is tackling the role of starting lacrosse goaltender for the first time this year, after testing the position from time to time during the summer of 2014.

"I thought it was fun, and it makes me one of the leaders of the team," said Wright. "But it can be a little bit scary."

In the Novice final that preceded the peewee drama, Ashton Eadie-Chartrand made sure that nail-biting would be non-existent, scoring four times and assisting on two others as the Rush trampled the Roughnecks 11-3.

Caden Dubreuil matched Eadie-Chartrand with a four goal effort, with Sam Dumais adding a pair, and Caden McDonald capping things off. Joe Gouchie, Bradford Scarpolini and Jacob Barney countered for the Roughnecks, who would have enjoyed a much closer final score if not for the outstanding work of Rush ball-stopper Zak Legault, standing tall from start to finish in net for the winners.

A dominant force offensively all weekend long, the younger of the Eadie-Chartrand siblings offered some words of advice, for his older brother, when it comes to making it count in tight to the net.

"Do a fake to see where (the goalie) moves, look for an open spot and then shoot," he said of his technique.

"If you're intermediate age or something, then it's better to do underhand, because then you've mastered it," he added.

Registered initially for lacrosse by his grandmother some six years ago, the 10 year-old sharp-shooter will continue with a sport that he loves for a few months yet, a key part of the Rockhounds Novice rep team.

"I like running and scoring goals," Eadie-Chartrand smiled. "On the faceoff, you try and sneak past your guy when you are on the offensive side."

Over in Coniston, the Bantams matched the Peewees in coming right down to the final buzzer, as the Rock edged the Roughnecks 4-3.

Max McCue, with his second of the game, and Kevin Watson scored just over a minute apart with less than five minutes to play, giving the Rock the edge. Joshua Menard chipped in with the final goal for the winners, while Draper MacLean, with two, and Francis Beaudry answered for the Roughnecks.
