The Sudbury Wolves announced July 13 that Russian forward Dmitry Sokolov has committed to play for the Sudbury Wolves this coming season.

In a news release, the Wolves said Sokolov, 17, was regarded as one of the most skilled young forwards available in the CHL Import Draft. The Wolves took the Omsk, Siberia native as their third overall selection.

The announcement was made at the home of Wolves' owners Mark and Karen Burgess, where Sokolov was welcomed by the Burgess family and by a number of current and former Sudbury Wolves, including Nick Foligno (Columbus Blue Jackets), Marcus Foligno (Buffalo Sabres), Derek MacKenzie (Florida Panthers), Conor Cummins, Connor Burgess, Tyler Arps, Kyle Lekun, Mike Muzyka and former player, head coach and GM Mike Foligno (New Jersey Devils).

Also on hand was Dave Matsos, the team’s new head coach, who had a chance to meet the Wolves' import for the first time.

"I have heard nothing but accolades from NHL personnel since we selected Sokolov," Matsos said in the release. "I know that ownership and management are determined to attract the very best players to Sudbury and Dmitry is certainly one of the very best."
