A pair of Sudbury paddlers have qualified to compete at the 2015 National Canoe and Kayak Championships, being hosted in Ottawa from Aug. 25-29.

Brothers Billy and Peter Boylan both emerged from the Western Ontario Divisional Championships staged last month in Welland, with Billy attending nationals for the second time, while Peter makes his inaugural appearance.

Racing in the U19 one person kayak events, Billy forged his way through at the 200m distance, while Peter, a little younger and part of the U17 grouping, will take part in both the 200m and 1000 metre competitions.

Both young athletes will be representing the Sudbury Canoe Club, the local summertime tradition founded over a century ago, and having produced more than one hundred medal recipients at a national or international level.

The SCC continues to offer a variety of paddling programs, as well as the competitive sprint canoe and kayak section, preparing for the impending move to their new home at the Northern Water Sports Centre.
