The Sudbury Minor Midget "AAA" Wolves appear set to compete, legitimately, with the provincial elite this year.

Yes, it is only four games, and four exhibition games at that, but a 4-0 record on a pre-season swing through the GTA this past weekend is encouraging, to say the least.

The Wolves set the tone early, blanking the Vaughan Kings 2-0, as Alex Vendette backstopped the locals between the pipes, and Damien Giroux and Brett Jacklin provided the offense.

Sudbury took out the Toronto Titans 3-1 in game two, with Timmins native Chad Denault and Mathieu Dokis-Dupuis joining Giroux on the scoresheet.

Vendette continued to hold a hot hand in game three, as the Minor Midget Wolves scored three shorthanded goals while killing off a double minor penalty, cruising to a 5-0 win over the Brampton 45ers.

Denault, with a pair, Giroux, Dokis-Dupuis and Joel Mongeon tallied for the locals, who have displayed an uncanny knack of outstanding defensive excellence for new coach Shawn Frappier.

Familiar faces once again on the scoresheet for Sudbury, as Denault, Giroux and Billy Moskal pull the trigger in a 3-1 finale over the Oakville Rangers.

The Wolves now ready themselves for the 8th Annual Toronto Titans International Minor Midget Prospect Tournament from Sept. 9-13 in Toronto. With a total of 48 teams competing, the event provides an early-season barometer for many players in their OHL draft year.

The Wolves will face the Don Mills Flyers, Central Ontario Wolves, Hamilton Huskies and York Simcoe Express in the hopes of garnering one of the 16 playoff berths up for grabs.
