Plenty of Sudburians on podium at mountain bike provincials

Members of both the Walden Mountain Bike Club Wolfpak Racing/Inception Cyclery team and the Sudbury Cycling Club mounted the top of the podium last Sunday, as the Highlands Nordic Centre in Duntroon played host to the Provincial Mountain Bike Championships.

Katlyn Dundas (Under 23 women) and Colin Grant (Citizen 19+ Men) helped ensure the the Wolfpak streak of enjoying at least one podium finish in every single event they have entered since the club was first launched remained intact with their respective first place finishes.

Representing the Sudbury Cycling Club, Suzanne Halet joined the duo among the crew of gold medal winners, taking top spot in the Citizen 19+ Women division.

Earning bronze medals for the WMBC were Samantha Fuller (Under 17 Expert Women) and Alex Schmidt  nder 23 Men), with Eddie Skala just two places back of his teammate in that same category.

Manitoulin Island native Alex Anstice secured a fourth place finish in the Master Expert 30-39 Men grouping, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:36.09, while Paul Guenette placed fifth in the Senior Expert 19-29 class.

Roger Girard rounded out the list of local participants, finishing 7th in the Master Sport 45-49 Men division after cycling for 1:09.54 last weekend.

"It has been another outstanding year for the Wolfpak," noted WMBC president Rob St. Marseille.

"The club is very proud of the individual results, and even more proud of the reputation as fun-loving ambassadors to the sport that they have earned, representing the WMBC and Sudbury within the mountain bike racing community."
