Lo-Ellen Park Knights' head football coach Kevin Ellsworth has long been recognized for his ability to find just the right mid-game adjustments, allowing his team to come from behind in critical games.

This time, however, he was quick to deflect the praise. A 15-14 victory over the Confederation Chargers had more to do, in Ellsworth's opinion, with his youngish troops simply believing in how they were capable of playing, and executing that play on the field.

Trailing 14-1 at the half, the Lo-Ellen offense, in particular, had only shown rare glimpses of the ability to string together a scoring drive, while the Knights defense was torched for a pair of touchdown passes, from Confed quarterback King Gil-Alfau to wideouts Riley Barbeau and Alex Tegman.

"We let the boys know that we were still in the game, that it was only a two-score game at the time," said Ellsworth over the weekend.

"I had thought that our defense had been playing pretty well in the first half. We were getting beat a little bit in the air, but we were OK.

"Offensively, we were missing on the little things. And we were trying to get our offense more aggressive. Our O-Line is pretty young, so we've been trying to get them to maintain their blocks and really raise their effort level up.

"They were taking a nice first step in the first half, but then would ease up after that."

The Knights were sparked, once again, by Noah Skuce, recording his team's first major of the day, one week after returning a pair of punts for touchdowns in a win over Lockerby.

Still, Lo-Ellen was behind 14-8, with under four minutes to play, when Ellsworth and company caught a break.

"We had a reception by David Caswell that was basically a jump ball down around their five yard line," said the coach. "Their DB (defensive back) actually had the ball in his hands to start, and David just fought for it and came up with the catch."

A few plays later, Ashton White rambled over the goal-line to deadlock the contest, with kicker Pierce Wallingford making good on the convert for the win.

Lasalle downs Notre Dame in close contest

The Lasalle Lancers evened their record at 1-1 as Luke Crepeau scored four touchdowns, and Logan Baronette added a key two-point conversion, allowing coach Mike Derks and company to slide past the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes 26-24.

Justin Trottier, Kurtis Watson and Anthony Thomas all reached the end zone for CND, with Alex Charlebois chipping in with a field goal and three point afters.

Lockerby blows out Bishop Carter

The Lockerby Vikings padded their stats at the expense of the Bishop Carter Gators in the final game of the night, outscoring the Valley crew 68-0, as seven different players scored touchdowns.

Calvin Sawyer paced the attack with three TDs, while David Moorhouse added a pair. Jared Loyer, Riley Roy, Kyle Allair, Zach Neault and Noah Giommi scored once each, with Allair adding three two-point conversions, Loyer and Cory Smith recording one each, and kicker Jack Wisniewski splitting the uprights once, on a point after attempt.
