The afterglow of a first win of the season proved to be fairly short-lived for the Lasalle Lancers senior boys football team.

Just four days after surprising the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes 26-24, the Lancers were forced to call their game with the Lively Hawks early in the third quarter, trailing 33-6.

Starting the contest with only 18 players dressed, coach Mike Derks and company were down to just 13 when the decision was made to not risk further injury.

First half touchdowns by Josh Walker, Andrew Elliot and Noah Lagadin were followed by an early strike from Cameron Marshall, with kicker
Keegan Prefontaine adding a pair of field goals and three converts.

Spencer Allen returned a first quarter kickoff 81 yards for the only score of the game for the Lancers.

Juniors

Meanwhile, junior play has continued over the past few days, with both the St. Benedict Bears and Lively Hawks posting lopsided wins.

Max MacGillivray scored four touchdowns, while Ben Rain and Michael Sawyer added one each in a 38-0 St. Benedict win over the Lasalle juniors. Trailing 14-13 midway through quarter two, the Lively Hawks reeled off 34 consecutive points, silencing the Lo-Ellen Park Knights 47-14 on Wednesday.

Nicholas Rideout and Liam Punkari led the way with two majors apiece, while Andy Barrett, Kaden Robinson and Steven Head also reached the end zone for the winners.

After making good on two of his first three convert attempts, Rideout gave way to Kiel Cress, adding three of his own. Colin Therrien accounted for all of the scoring for the Knights with a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

Girls' flag football

In girls flag football action, a rookie quarterback is taking the Confederation Chargers to new heights. With grade nine sensation Madison Laberge at the helm, the Chargers improved to 2-0 for the first time in team history (within the Division "A" ranks), dropping the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes 27-13.

It was the first Confederation win over CND in many, many years - or at least as long as head coach Brad Smith can remember. Aryanne Spry enjoyed a double TD performance for the winners, with Dana Carbone and Kait White joining her on the scoresheet.

Kayleigh Coufal successfully converted three of the majors for Confed. Danika Loiselle and Josée Scott recorded touchdowns in a losing cause, with Scott also chipping in with a convert.

The Lasalle girls received a pair of touchdowns from Steph Arseneault and one each from Meg Ethier and Kiera Lebreton, declawing the St Benedict Bears 27-6. Ali Montgomery added a two point convert, while Ethier received half as many points for her kick through the uprights.

Finally, in a see-saw battle that went right down to the wire, the Lockerby Vikings overcame a pair of late touchdowns from Isabelle Mercier, recording the game-winning major in the dying seconds to squeak past the Lo-Ellen Park Knights 21-18.

Lo-Ellen head coach Kathy Cleaver noted the strong defensive work of both Amber Lenoir and Sarah Matt, helping to keep her young team in the game.
