A trio of former Sudbury Lady Wolves are wasting little time making a name for themselves in OUA (Ontario University Athletics) sports circles this year.

Karli Shell scored in her first post-secondary game, breaking the ice as the Guelph Gryphons blanked the defending national champion Western Mustangs 3-0 in the season opener for both teams Oct. 3.

Meanwhile, third-year goaltender Emily Toffoli-Henderson turned aside 19 of the 20 shots she faced, as the Laurentian Voyageur women battled to a hard-fought 2-1 win, in overtime, over the Nipissing Lakers on Oct. 3.

Captain Julie Hebert netted the only game on the opening frame, with Bronwyn Bolduc pulling the Lakers even in the middle stanza. With no scoring in the third, the teams were in for some four-on-four hockey, with McAuley Carr draining the game-winning goal at 1:13 of overtime.

Finally, the Queen's Gaels had never beaten an NCAA Division I opponent, until Sudbury product Stephanie Pascal threw up a shutout a week ago, with Queen's edging the Syracuse Lady Orange 1-0 in Syracuse.

The win came in spite of the fact that the Gaels were outshot 37-10, as the Syracuse ladies entered the 2015-2016 season as the pre-season conference favourites in a recent coaches’ poll. Pascal continued her strong play on Saturday, with Queen's defeating the much-improved Ottawa Gee Gees 3-1.
