Strong showing in North Bay for Sudbury weightlifters

The 14th annual Ray Hamilton Classic in North Bay attracted a solid contingent of weightlifters from the Sudbury area recently, including many who managed to work their way on to the podium.

The 14th annual Ray Hamilton Classic in North Bay attracted a solid contingent of weightlifters from the Sudbury area recently, including many who managed to work their way on to the podium.

Securing second place in their respective weight class were Arijana Tuttle (48 kg - 11 yrs old), Victoria Niven (63 kg) and Connor Smyth (69 kg), while Kaylee Wedge placed third in the 63 kg classification.

snatch - 50 kg

Connor Smyth (69kg)
snatch - 70 kg
clean and jerk - 80 kg

Unfortunately, head coach Thomas Hums missed on all three of his attempts at 105 kg in the snatch event, bowing out with no weight.

The majority of the Sudbury lifters are back in action on Nov. 22, competing on their home turf at Laurentian University.

Meanwhile, three of the young ladies are off to Toronto for the Fall Classic on Nov. 7, with several club members still looking to qualify for provincials at either event.
