Sudbury KMAC (Korean Martial Arts Centre) is celebrating their newest world champion, Myah Walia, who won gold at the World Karate Championships in Orlando Florida.

Walia’s competitiveness also earned her a place on a Canadian fighting team which was part of a live stream show. They earned themselves the silver medal.

This year 10 members from Sudbury KMAC and three members from Valley KMAC competed at the World Championships.

Returning champion Sarra Gratton was able to retain her title in Chinese Forms as well as improving her standing from last year by winning the bronze medal in creative forms.

Seven of the members were new to world championships and did not all bring home silverware, however the team managed to bring home a total of 13 medals — two gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals.
