The youngsters in the Lo-Ellen Park Knights senior girls basketball roster didn't seem the least bit phased by their first visit to OFSAA.
Maria Best (grade 10) led the Knights with 13 points, while freshman Steffi Leers (grade 9) added nine of her own as the third-seeded Knights downed the Lester B. Pearson Patriots from Burlington 47-31 in first round play in Windsor.
Rounding out the scoring for the local winners at the OFSAA Girls Basketball "A" Championships were Nicole Conlin (8), Katryna Rogerson (6), Emily Derks (5), Sophia Zulich (4) and Hayley McKibbon (2).
The Patriots, meanwhile, received well over half of their total offensive production from Brenna Hudspeth, with the talented teen finishing with a game-high 19-point effort in a losing cause.
Lo-Ellen will now face the 14th-seeded Brock High School Bulldogs from Cannington, a community just west of Lindsay in the Kawartha Lakes region. The Bulldogs were stopped 49-26 by the Ridley College Tigers in their opening encounter.
Semi-final games and the medal matchups all tip-off on Saturday.
