With one final tournament before the real fun begins, the Sudbury Midget "AA" Lady Wolves made the most of it.

Travelling to Québec for the tradition that is the Limoilou Tournament, the local crew got rolling early, beating the André Larendeau Boomeran 3-1 on goals from Kiana Verbiwski, Makayla Gratton and Meagan McGaughey.

Loryn Pearson backstopped the Lady Wolves to their second win in as many games, posting the shutout, as Sudbury blanked the Rimouski Pionnières 4-0. A very balanced attack would see Myla McCormick, Mélisa Kingsley, Kailey Lapensee and Madison Laberge all find their way on to the scoresheet.

The two time defending provincial champions dropped a tough one, falling 2-1 in game three to the Lennoxville Cougars in a back and forth affair, with Verbiwski netting her second of the tournament.

Back in the win column in game four, as Tayler Murphy, McCormick and Meagan McGaughey find the back of the net, and Pearson extends her shutout streak with a 3-0 whitewashing of the Saint-Laurent Patriotes.

Finishing first in their division, the Midget "AA" ladies faced the challenge that were the Québec Seniors, defeated 2-1 in semi-final play. For a point of reference, that same Québec crew bested the Barrie Sharks PWHL juniors 5-0 earlier in the tournament.

Call-up Makayla Gratton again made her presence felt, hitting the scoresheet for a second time. Québec would move on to beat the host Limoilou crew 4-0 in the championship encounter.

The Lady Wolves will open LLFHL (Lower Lakes Female Hockey League) playoffs this weekend, facing the Brampton Canadettes for a pair of games in their four-point series.

From there, coach Mike McGaughey and company will ready themselves for a huge road trip to North Bay next weekend, battling the Midget "AA" Ice Boltz in game one of their regional playdown.

Game two goes on Feb. 18 at 8:15 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, immediately following game two of the North Bay vs Sudbury Bantam "AA" showdown.
