DOW, Stella Marie (nee McGraw) - In loving memory of Stella Marie Dow (nee McGraw), 73 years. Stella passed peacefully November 2012 at Health Sciences North (after a courageous battle with MS) with her loving family by her side. Beloved wife of Peter Dow (Copper Cliff). Loving mother of sons Douglas of Lively (wife Anita Nolan) and John residing in Montreal (partner Derek Lamontagne). Born of Acadian and Irish roots on May 31st, 1939 to Frank and Cecilia McGraw (predeceased) in the ocean side village of Tracadie, New Brunswick. Stella, the eldest of 17 siblings (9 living and 7 predeceased) was to meet her future husband at a 25 cent dance in Fredericton while he attended UNB. Stella moved with her beau back to Ontario in 1961 and settled into Copper Cliff and raised her two sons Douglas and John. During these early years Stella kept herself active in several organizations including the Guild of the Church of Saint John the Divine, The Sorority Beta Sigma Phi (Delta Gamma chapter), she was also the statistician for the Canadian Ski Patrol System (Algonquin Zone) as the family was heavily devoted to skiing. She loved curling and was a member of the Copper Cliff Curling Club. She returned to work after John began school and eventually retired from the LCBO after 29 years. At 50 years of age, Stella was diagnosed with MS and over the years it eventually gripped and stole her body and a life rich in retirement escapades. Fortunately her spirit and mind were immune to this insidious disease. Peter and Stella happily celebrated 50 years of Marriage this past summer surrounded with family and friends. Also 5 members of their original wedding party attended. Stella will be sadly missed by two grandchildren Atina and Charlie, also many nieces and nephews. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9pm Friday and after 10am Saturday). Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Saturday, November 17th, 2012 at 11am. Cremation with interment at the Civic Cemetery on Second Avenue in a location she and Peter carefully selected and erected a wonderful monument. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MS Society would be greatly appreciated. To light a memorial candle, donations or messages of condolences available on-line atĀ www.lougheed.org
