Obituary

 HARMATY, Amy - In loving memory of Amy Harmaty (nee Holowanky) who passed away on May 1st, 2012 at St. Joseph's Continuing Care Complex at the age of 94 with her family at her side. Predeceased by parents George and Anna Holowanky. Youngest sibling and predeceased by three brothers and five sisters; Mike, Mary Velechko (George), Helen Augustine (Bill), Katie Jonasson (John), Jessie Balloway (Alex), Sophie Jakus (Alex), Steve (Yvonne) and John - survived by spouse Sanay currently residing in Victoria, B.C. Amy married nick in Saskatchewan and they moved to the Sudbury area in 1950. After Nick's death in 1997, Amy moved to the Ukrainian Senior Citizens' Complex in 1999. At the Complex, she spent many happy years helping with the cooking workshops and where she had much fun with her fellow residents playing cards on Thursday evenings and faithfully attending rosary prayers every Friday evening. Amy religiously attended mass at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church every weekend. Dear mother of Eugene (Carol) and grandmother to Jamie (partner Katrina) and Craig and great grandmother to Kendall all of Fort Myers, Florida. Will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda Purvis (Jack predeceased) and grandson John of Sudbury. For many years and until she was 89 years of age, she travelled to Florida annually with Linda and John to visit Eugene and his family; and the three of them took many fun filled trip over the years to various locations in southern Ontario. Aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews especially close and sadly missed by Edna Kolisnyk (Bill predeceased) and Alex Balloway (Marion) of Sudbury, Carrie Collins (Ted predeceased) of Calgary and Paulette Pilon (Sylvio) of Ottawa and friend and former neighbor Doris Jennings of Sudbury. Amy worked for many years at Chuck's Fish House on Lorne Street and at Woolworth's lunch counter retiring in 1979. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation with burial of ashes in the family plot at Lasalle Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held later in May. Donations can be made to St. Joseph's Continuing Care Complex. Amy resided at St. Joseph's CCC from mid March till her death which was made very peaceful by the kind, compassionate and caring staff who all were genuinely concerned that she was comfortable and pain free.
