LANE, Jean (nee Burton) - With much sadness and in loving memory the family announces the passing of Jean Lane in her 93rd year at her home in Sudbury on Friday, December 7, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Lenox Lane (deceased, 1996). Cherished mother of Carleton of Sudbury and Scott of Toronto. Dear sister of the late Mabel Harvey (Robert, deceased) of Toronto, the late Robert Burton (Joan, deceased) of Sudbury, and John Burton (Louise) of North Carolina. Loved dearly by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Daughter of Lester and Ina Burton (nee Jacobson), both predeceased. The span of Jean's life in Sudbury encompassed her childhood during the “Roaring 20s“, her teenage years during the Great Depression of the 1930s, early adulthood during the Second World War, marriage to Lenox, the love of her life, in 1946, and the raising of a family during the late 40s, the prosperous 50s and the turbulent 60s. Jean took great pride in entertaining family and friends and her contagious laughter will long be remembered. She was an accomplished bridge player and an avid swimmer. In their later years, Jean and Lenox spent their winters in Florida, always returning in the spring to Sudbury. Since the passing of Lenox in 1996, Jean provided unfailing devotion to her children. In more recent years, in the face of medical complications, Jean's spirit was sustained and enlivened by her inner “sisu“, the Finnish quality of strength of will and perseverance. At the family's request, there will be no Visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel at JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME in late July or early August of 2013. An announcement of the date of that Celebration will appear in the Sudbury Star in July of 2013. Donations in memory of Jean to Health Sciences North Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
