PENNELL, Melvin George - In loving Memory of Melvin George Pennell, 80 years. Peacefully Wednesday August 1st, 2012 at the Health Sciences North, Sudbury with his loving family at his side. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Medynski) Pennell. Mel and Marg met while serving in the Irish Regiment and married May 18th, 1968 with a full Military Wedding. He was born in Sudbury, on July 15th, 1932, where he also settled to raise two children Laurie Pennell and Glen Pennell of Toronto. He is survived by sisters Noreen Wither, Albina Girard of Sudbury, and Vivian Turcotte of Chalk River and predeceased by brothers Orville Pennell (Flo), Bob Pennell (Jeannette) and sister Marlene Kulczycki (Dennis). He is also predeceased by Parents Austin and Velma (nee Rilley) Pennell. A proud Canadian, Mel served his country in the Army as a Private in the Royal Canadian Regiment, having seen action in the Korean War. He continued his service as an active member of the Korea Veterans Association serving as Sgt-At- Arms. Mel also was an active Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 55 years at Branch 76, participating on both the Zone and District Executive Committees. A celebration of his life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 76, Weller St., Sudbury. From 11am to 3pm Monday August 6th, 2012, with a Memorial Service at 12 noon Monday. Donations are requested to be made to the RCL Br. 76 Poppy Fund. Cremation to take place at the Park Lawn Crematorium, Sudbury. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember him.
