TREGONNING, Laurent (Larry) - With great sadness, we announce the passing of Larry Tregonning on November 7th, 2012 at the age of 69, after dealing arduously with pancreatic cancer for over 11 months. Loving husband and best friend of Karen (Sartor) and devoted father to James Tregonning. Dear brother to Wilfred, Yvonne, Juanita (Robert) Langdon, Johanne, Diane (Raymond) Thibeault, François and brother-in-law to Jim (Karen) Sartor. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Larry was a dedicated educator and taught at several French Language elementary and secondary schools as well as being the coordinator for “L'école d'été pour l'excellence en sciences“ at Laurentian University. In 1993, Larry received the very first Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence. Larry was involved in science fairs and was considered a great help to students. He developed a math test designed to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of grade 6 to 8 students, which was used to re-evaluate the provincial curriculum. For many years before his retirement, Larry worked as an Education Officer with the Ministry of Education and helped shape the current Ontario Curriculum for the teaching of mathematics and science. His many interests included photography, reading and singing with various choirs (including La Chorale du Centennaire). He was a dedicated volunteer with various parishes throughout the Diocese of Sault Ste Marie, the diocesan choir, Sudbury Palliative Care Association (now known as Warm Hearts), the Club Allegri (in Coniston) and Cambrian College. At Larry's request, there will be no visitation. If desired, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Foundation or Warm Hearts formally the Sudbury Regional Palliative Care would be appreciated. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish on Monday, November 12th, 2012 at 11 a.m. (Friends may gather at the church after 10:30 a.m. Monday). An intimate reception for close friends and family will be held in the Parish Hall after the service before interment at St John's cemetery in Garson. A special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and agencies that helped Larry navigate through his final journey. Dear Karen--my sorrow for you, and your son. Larry had such a big heart. He tried to help my son promote a book John wrote. No words can help you dear Karen. That I know. We pray for Larry and we pray for you. Remember;; Now Larry will be forever going to Jesus on your behalf, and one day you will meet him again, and you both will be together for eternity. Much love to you-- Your former classmate. Brenda Coleman
Yvonne and all of your family: you are deeply in my thoughts and prayers as you absorb the loss of your brother.... and begin your farewells.. May he be free of all suffering now in this life, as he enters the Eternal... to meet again those who loved him and went before him.... and to enjoy learning all about the next life's perspectives....
