A group of Sudbury dancers got a once-in-a-lifetime experience on March 4 when they took to the stage with one of Canada's most popular bands, Hedley.
"About two weeks ago, we had a phone call from the Sudbury arena asking us if we wanted to perform at a concert," said Ali Loney.
At the time, Loney, who is the owner and director of Dance Evolution, had no idea the concert was for Hedley.
"Without hesitation I said 'of course.'"
Loney had only a week to choreograph a routine. The only direction she received from the band's tour manager was that the dancers had to be dressed like cheerleaders and they would be dancing to the song "Cha-ching."
As for the dancers, who range from 14 to 20 years old, they were pretty excited about their on-stage debut with the band.
Dancer Taylor Austin is a longtime fan and admits the first thing she thought was, "Oh my god, we're dancing with Hedley."
Fourteen-year-old dancer, Matilda Hick, said she couldn't stop smiling and laughing before they took the stage.
"They gave us a little pep talk and told us to just have fun with it."
While on stage, Sara Bergeron, 19, was "soaking it all in."
"I wasn't even concentrating on the dance moves," Bergeron said.
"I had to remind myself that this was actually happening."
