CBC is looking for the Canadian athlete of the year and Sudbury native Devon Kershaw has cracked the short list.

The Olympic cross-country skier is currently ranked fourth, behind Eric Lamaze, Patrick Chan and Dylan Armstrong.

The CBC's Scott Russell and Sports Weekend are conducting an online vote for Canada's best athlete of 2011. Kershaw, who is also an alumni of Track North, is among a dozen athletes on the short list and needs the public's vote to win the title.

Kershaw had an outstanding season on the world cross-country circuit in 2011. First, there was the Tour de Ski through Germany and Italy. Kershaw won medals in four of the 10 stages — one of them was gold. Then he combined with Alex Harvey in the team sprint to win Canada's first gold medal at the world championships before 100,000 fans in Oslo, Norway.

Sudburians can cast their vote for Kershaw here.
